IMPATIENS

Impatiens are a garden staple.  Standard impatiens grow in mounds and have proliferate blooms from early Spring to late Fall. That is why they are a long time favorite among gardeners. They are easy to care for and give tons of color to a shady area.. Give them lots of water and pinch them back occasionally to keep the from becoming too leggy.   We grow the ‘Super Elfin’ series because they stay shorter and don’t require pinching back very often.

New Guineas are a hybrid form of impatiens. They can tolerate more sun than impatiens, but still cannot take full sun. They have huge blooms and show lots of color all summer long.  We grow the Sonic and Super Sonic series.  The Super Sonics are bigger plants.  New Guinea Impatiens are highly resistant to the dreaded Downy Mildew.

Sunpatiens can take full sun!  (We have had them growing in our front sign bed on the west side!)  We grow the spreading series, which have a mounding, less upright growing habit.  This relatively new introduction is becoming very popular.  With its combination of bright blooms and variegated leaves it produces a show all summer long in both beds and pots.  Sunpatiens are resistant to Downy Mildew.

Westwood-Grown Double Impatiens are another excellent choice for shade color. These bold, double blooms resembling roses cover plants all season long. They’re also perfectly at home in patio pots and hanging baskets. Will do well in morning sun, afternoon shade. For best performance, fertilize and keep moist.
